How a Florida Divorce Works
Although most couples enter into a marriage hoping it is forever, the simple fact is almost 50% of marriages end in divorce. When a marriage ends, spouses and their children often face a perfect storm of stressful events: new living arrangements, parenting schedules, division of property, and money issues. The emotions caused by these changes can make it difficult for spouses to understand the legal process, and may even impair your ability to make sound decisions.
Further, your divorced friends may give you advice about what should happen in your case. Unfortunately, the information and advice you get from other people can be misleading or wrong because every divorce has different issues. Instead, rely on our skilled Family Law team to provide you accurate and thorough advice regarding parenting schedules, child support, alimony, property division, and your other case-specific issues.
In the state of Florida, neither party is required to prove who is at fault for the divorce. Florida Divorces are either contested or uncontested. A divorce is referred to as being “uncontested” where both parties agree to the divorce, and there is no dispute regarding time-sharing, division of property, child support, alimony, or other issues. Where there is a dispute to any of those issues, a divorce is referred to as being “contested”.
From the very beginning, whether your divorce is uncontested or contested, you will receive an honest assessment of your situation and straight forward talk to help you set realistic goals. We will guide and assist you in gathering documentation and evidence for discovery and spend adequate time preparing you for settlement negotiations, depositions, and/or trial.
