Is Your Check Engine Light On?
When a light illuminates on your dashboard, it’s usually a sign you need to do something. Most often it’s letting you know you’re low on gas, your parking brake is still on, or that a door is still open. Those are easy fixes.
When other lights come on, it’s not always something that’s quickly corrected and you may need a professional to look it over. The Check Engine light is the one indicator you need to address immediately.
The Check Engine light only comes on when there is an issue your electronic control system can’t fix and there are two modes. A solid Check Engine light means that you need to see a mechanic soon, so schedule maintenance as quickly as is convenient. If the Check Engine light is blinking, pull over and call a tow truck. There is a serious issue that needs immediate attention.
It may just be a snapped belt, or it may be a sign of something seriously wrong with your vehicle. No matter what, when a light comes on, you need to take care of it. Not doing so puts you, and those around you, at risk.
Remember, safe cars save lives. Properly maintaining your vehicle and addressing problems as soon as they come up will protect you and your passengers. It will also extend the life of your car and save you money in the long run.
