What Does an End to Daylight Savings Time Mean?
Yesterday the US Senate voted unanimously to end Daylight Savings Time. Unanimously! Who says the parties disagree on everything?
What would this change mean? First of all, we wouldn’t have to change the clocks twice a year so there wouldn’t be that confusion on “what time is it” and “are we too late or too early for church?”
It would also mean fewer heart attacks and strokes on the Monday after the switch. You probably wouldn’t gain weight in the weeks following the change. You also wouldn’t be as fuzzy-headed or as irritable.
All of these are after-effects of Daylight Savings Time. So is the 6% increase in car accidents that happen in the week following the hour jumps.
We’re all in favor of anything that reduces the number of injuries and fatalities in such a significant way. And as long as the House of Representatives agrees, we might finally see an end to the accidents, injuries, and deaths that occur twice a year because of DST.
