You Know What Grinds my Brakes?
When you hit your brakes are you hearing a grinding or crunching noise? It’s likely your pads are getting thin or your rotor is worn. It’s time to have them checked and, probably, replaced.
You should be checking your brake pads, rotor, fluid, and lining every 12 months or 12,000 miles. You should be replacing your pads when they’re less than 1/4″ thick. Some pads have a wear indicator that emits a squealing sound when they’re too thin.
If you see any pitting, grooves, or wear to the rotor you will want to replace or resurface them as well. This involves scraping down the worn areas to create a smooth surface.
Safe cars save lives, and if your brakes aren’t in good condition it is more likely to lead to accidents. A car that can’t stop is an accident waiting to happen. Regular maintenance is important to avoid crashes and injuries.
